In 2019, the seeds of an inspiring idea were sown when Niall Finnegan reached out to his old friend Josh (John) Fogarty, proposing a singer-songwriter night in Clane Co. Kildare. Their shared history in the band Valentine Tank added a touch of nostalgia, and thus, the Lily Sessions were born. The inaugural night in 2019 welcomed a small but enthusiastic crowd, mostly artists eager to test their songs before an audience.

Though their plans for a follow-up in March 2020 were dashed by the sudden pandemic shutdowns, they didn’t let adversity dim their passion. In 2022, seizing an opportunity, Niall approached the Playing Fields festival, and to their delight, they managed to secure a spot for the Lily Sessions amidst the two-day event.

Since then, the Lily Sessions have grown steadily, with word spreading organically through word of mouth and their online presence on Instagram and Facebook. The heartfelt connections forged during these sessions have made them more than just a musical gathering – they’ve become a welcoming community.

Josh, a talented Graphic Designer, plays a crucial role in the Lily Sessions, not only helping to organize the artists who grace the stage but also curating the website and capturing the essence of each performance through his skilled photography. Outside of the sessions, John’s creativity extends to his own venture, Making Shapes, where his artistic touch transforms ideas into captivating designs and visuals.

Meanwhile, Niall, with his expertise in carpentry, is the mastermind behind the technical aspects of the Lily Sessions. He’s responsible for the sound, lighting, and stage setup, ensuring every artist feels at home on the platform. His craftsmanship and attention to detail bring an added touch of magic to each session. Beyond the Lily Sessions, Niall’s carpentry skills shine in his professional endeavours, where his dedication and passion are evident in every project he undertakes.

Now, with gratitude for the support they’ve received, they’re looking forward to the 2023 Playing Fields festival, thrilled to share their music with an even wider audience. The journey has been filled with challenges and surprises, but Niall and John feel a genuine sense of joy in bringing people together through the Lily Sessions.
